Beauty Counter Design: Makeup Counters, Testers and Display Lighting
A beauty counter is not a shelf with a mirror on it. Customers come to be colour-matched, tested on and sold to, and the counter either makes that easy or makes it awkward. The fixtures decide which.
Design the tester zone first
The tester zone is where the sale happens, so give it the most generous part of the counter: a working top around 600 mm deep at 900 mm high, open tester trays at the front so a customer can reach without asking, and a wipe-down area within arm's reach of staff. Keep sellable stock behind, in drawers.
Light the face, not the bottle
Lighting in a beauty hall has one job: show skin and colour honestly. Vertical light at 4000 K with a colour rendering index above 90 in front of the mirror removes the shadows that make a foundation look wrong, while LED strips under the tester shelves keep products bright without glare. Dimmable circuits let staff calm the counter during evening trading.
Make the mirror the centrepiece
A slim mirror totem with a soft halo is the signature of almost every brand counter, and it is also a practical tool: it carries the light fitting, hides the cable and gives the customer somewhere to face. Build it as a removable unit, so a rebrand does not mean rebuilding the counter.

Build drawers that survive daily use
Cosmetics counters open hundreds of times a day. Specify steel runners rated for the load, adjustable dividers and a wipe-clean insert in every drawer. Testers, brushes and cleaning cloths all need a defined home, or they finish the day on the working top.
Finish for mall conditions
Malls regulate fire performance, cleaning chemicals and delivery hours. That means sealed laminate or solid-surface worktops, powder-coated steel or lacquered MDF bodies, adjustable feet that absorb floor tolerance, and a plinth that hides the levelling. Ask for samples already tested against the cleaning chemicals your mall uses.
